Garden (ongoing)
These photo-based works reflect an exploration of Oak Spring Garden during my residency, shaped by time spent walking and observing the landscape, the collections, and the care that sustains them. The site remains grounded in founder Bunny Mellon’s vision of the perfectly imperfect and in the labor of those who maintain it. Mellon’s belief that nothing should be noticed encourages a way of looking that moves from the larger whole to its smaller parts. The grid emerges as a structuring form, echoing the planning embedded in the gardens and greenhouses, which are carefully tended without being over-controlled. The works shown here range from exploratory studies to more resolved forms, made on site and after my return home. All are underpinned by unhurried time within a place where ordinary things register as quietly sublime.
