Be in the Wildlife: Zine
During my residency in Joshua Tree National Park (JTNP), I collaborated with fourth-grade students from Yucca Mesa Elementary School. Together with park rangers, we embarked on a field trip to Hidden Valley within JTNP. Following our park visit, I conducted interviews with the students. The resulting text, incorporated into risograph-printed zines and book mock-ups, captures their candid responses to my questions. Their answers varied in tone, ranging from expressions of joy to more somber reflections on the future of the park. The photographs in the zine were taken during the travel to Hidden Valley and throughout our field trip. I altered some of the the images to align with my observations and the insights shared by the fourth graders regarding the park. This zine seeks to shed light on the magic and ecological significance of Joshua Tree National Park and to elevate the voices of its future stewards.
