During my residency in Joshua Tree National Park (JTNP), I worked with 4th graders from Yucca Mesa Elementary school. Along with park rangers, I accompanied the students on a field trip to Hidden Valley in JTNP. The day after our park visit, I conducted interviews with the kids. The text in the risograph printed zine and book mock-ups share their answers to my questions. I found their responses compelling – some joyous while others share a somber perspective on the future of JTNP. The photographs in the zine were made on the way to and during the field trip. The photographs were altered based on my observations and the 4th graders insights about the park.
