Projects > Be in the Wildlife: Process

Be in the Wildlife is a series of photo-based works made from 2019-2021 inspired by my artist residency in Joshua Tree National Park. I gained a variety of perspectives on JTNP during conversations and interviews with area elementary school students, park employees, and local residents. These insights as well as my own recollection of the park connects to photography’s tangled relationship to space, memory, and time.

Joshua trees are an essential part of the ecosystem in the park and in this series. As of September 2020 Joshua trees (yucca brevifolia) are temporarily protected through the California Endangered Species Act. This makes them the first plant protected in the state due to threats posed by climate change.
